Description:
Volunteers advocate for the rights of residents. They do this by receiving, investigating and resolving concerns of residents (and/or their family members) about quality of care. They are also concerned with monitoring appropriate laws, regulations, and policies affecting long term care residents. Volunteers can provide information to the public. Ombudsman volunteers seek to help resolve problems before they escalate into more serious problems. They can provide information, guidance and feedback to residents, family members and residence staff.
Special Notes:
Volunteers receive 30+ hours of training before assignment. New Ombudsman volunteers are mentored for the first several months. Continuing training opportunities are scheduled throughout the year. Contact the Pierce County Regional Long Term Care Ombudsman to learn more about volunteering as an ombudsman in a residential facility - (253) 798-3789.
